ARCTIC Solo Expedition – Press Release
VANCOUVER, BC – September 5, 2006 – This September, Marcus Martin will set out on an ARCTIC “solo expedition” across southern British Columbia. Martin’s project, ARCTIC, is an unconventional musical exploration blending acoustic guitar with current technology. A skilled guitarist, Martin layers haunting melodies on top of his arrangements with the use of a device that allows him to record himself live and loop the recordings. Intertwining vocals and guitar create a chilled and airy soundscape, intricate and richly textured. With a sound that appeals to audiences of indie rock and folk alike, his show promises to be a departure from the traditional solo acoustic songwriter.
Originally from the northern town of Yellowknife, Canada, Martin lets his music be an introduction to his environmental message learned from years on the land. Interested fans can learn more about environmental happenings in the North through the ARCTIC website and newsletter.
ARCTIC’s solo tour will include the following dates:
- Friday, Sept 15: Ethical Addictions – Langley, BC
- Saturday, Sept 16: The Grateful Fed – Kelowna, BC
- Sunday, Sept 17: Lorenzo’s Cafe – Enderby, BC
- Monday, Sept 18: Karma – Calgary, AB
- Wednesday, Sept 20: The Brickhouse – Fernie, BC
- Thursday, Sept 21: The Crooked Cafe – Kaslo, BC
- Saturday, Sept 23: The Royal on Baker (opening for The Tuques) – Nelson, BC
ARCTIC performances may be solo or may include a three-piece band, creating new interpretations of the music – and, along with Martin’s improvisational style, making sure that no two shows are ever quite the same. Past performance highlights have included 2005 and 2006 North by Northeast Festival Showcases and support for Nettwerk artist Adrienne Pierce.
