Punchface presents Make the Lion, ARCTIC, Orchid Highway at Hoko’s
On Saturday, September 22, 2007 Punchface Propaganda Machine presents Make the Lion, ARCTIC, and Orchid Highway at Hoko’s (362 Powell Street, Vancouver). Doors open at 8pm, cover is $5. All ages!
Make the Lion: “Make the Lion’s versatile and engaging mix of post Radiohead prog-psychadelia and the raw energy of bands such as nirvana and sonic youth has recently been described by Nerve magazine as ‘intelligent rock for the thinking soul, […] one of Vancouver’s more impressive young bands.’ Rounded off by a live performance that includes interactive visuals and a rotating cast of guest musicians playing electronics, brass, percussion and guitar, audiences are drawn into a unique and dynamic listening experience.”
ARCTIC: “A haunting moodiness evocative of a cold Northern landscape. Always seeking contrast, ARCTIC is still sometimes a solo project, sometimes a full band, never exactly the same from one show to the next. In either form it combines diverse influences in unexpected ways: progressive rock, jazz, industrial rock merge with ambient textures and acoustic singer/songwriter melodies to create something fresh, unconventional and intriguing.”
Orchid Highway: “The Orchid Highway is one of Vancouver’s longest-running bands, and their dogged die-hard attitude is more than justified by the quality of the music they write. Trousers-deep in a rapturously ongoing obsession with mid-60s Britpop and psychedelia… imaginatively melodic arrangements that would knock Brian Wilson out of his housecoat and on his fat ass in his piano-equipped sandbox.”
